Nancy Navarro, Candidate for Montgomery County Council, District 4, 2008

Thank you for visiting my site. I’d like to share with you why I’m running in the special election for the District 4 Seat on the Council.

I’m running for the District 4 Seat on the Montgomery County Council because I believe as President of the Board of Education, I have the leadership experience to continue building on the positive accomplishments that Marilyn put into motion at the Council. I  bring a balanced, solutions-oriented approach to addressing critical issues, and I am committed to enhancing the quality of life in District 4 while meeting the demands of our changing population and economy. In short, I believe in the politics of possibilities.  It goes without saying that no one is going to be able to immediately fill the void left as a result of the sudden death of Marilyn.  Having known Marilyn for many years, I was deeply affected by her death, as I am sure many in our community were.  However, I believe that Marilyn would not have wanted the district to go without proven leadership for long. She knew better than anyone how important it is for all parts of the County to have a voice at the Council where important decisions are made affecting many aspects of our daily lives.

Balanced Leadership in a Complex County
I favor a balanced approach to decision-making, one that is respectful of the diverse needs and opinions of all. My life’s work has been influenced by my core belief in the power of effective relationships with key stakeholders. Collaboration is going to be the key to success in meeting the needs of our constituents in District 4 and Montgomery County at large. As a councilmember, I pledge to work as a committed partner with colleagues on the Council, the County Executive,  community and business leaders on matters affecting land use, development, transportation and jobs-- with the goal of preserving and building thriving, livable communities all over our great county. Also, if elected, my work on the Council will continue to reflect my unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of education and well-being of all the children of Montgomery County.

Nancy NavarroMeeting the Needs of All Our Citizens

The changes in the demographics of our community, coupled with changes in our economy, require us to take stock of the current state of our county, build a shared vision of a desired future, and set appropriate priorities based on the resources at our disposal. We have a rich and vibrant population that can serve as an asset in finding solutions to district issues. I believe that the long-time residents of the district and the new immigrant families can both contribute toward finding the best solutions
for county issues and help build a strong bridge to the future. While respecting different needs in our community, I plan to make decisions that will make the most efficient use of our resources.

Remember to vote in the special elections-

Special Primary on April 15 and Special General on May 13th, and I thank you for supporting me for the District 4 Seat.
