AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE

Access to health care means more to me than just ensuring access to insurance. I believe that it means access to the prevention, care and treatment services that all residents of our county deserve in order to be contributing members of the community. As your County Councilmember, I will prioritize access to health care for children, seniors and working families—including finding ways to effectively address prescription drug prices, making insurance affordable, providing services after hours and supporting home-based care when its needed. I will advance:

  • Affordable Drugs and Coverage: Expand prescription drug coverage and extend basic health care access to uninsured county residents through the “Montgomery Cares” and “Community Pharmacy” programs
  • Clinic Expansion: Meet the basic health care needs of all of our residents and prevent unnecessary and expensive overuse of hospital emergency services by ensuring that community-based clinics are available throughout the county
  • Access to Emergency Care: Emergency ambulance service is not a frill - it saves lives and should remain publicly funded and accessible to all.
  • Preventative Care: Healthy living starts with healthy eating--nutritional support programs for the elderly and homebound are as important as healthy foods for children in our schools.
